2016-2017

Latin II & IV – Honors Level

Grading Policies:

My goal is to separate subject skills (reading, declining, conjugating, vocabulary, and cultural knowledge) from life skills (participating/behaving in class, turning things in on time).  Therefore, 80% of your grade will be based on three key skills in Latin, 20% on life skills. 

Latin Skills: 80% total

  • 30% Reading Comprehension
    • Demonstrating an understanding of written Latinby means of reading comprehension questions and other written assignments
  • 20% Grammar
    • word for word translation of Latin into correct, coherent English correctly answering questions pertaining to the grammar of the stage charts, questions, declining, conjugating, etc.
  • 15% Vocabulary
    • identifying definitions
    • identifying/defining derivatives
  • 15% Cultural/Historical Knowledge
    • demonstrating understanding of culture topics by means of short answer, multiple choice, or short essay the majority of project grades will account for this skill

Life Skills: 20% total

  • 7.5% Meeting Deadlines
    • turning in assignments on time (this includes homework)
    • using stage goals to self assess progress
  • 7.5% Daily Participation/In-Class Behavior
    • each student is expected to behavior appropriately & participate on a daily basis
  • 5% Digital Portfolio
    • maintaining a digital portfolio (checked each quarter)

** Your year end final will count for 10-11% of your grade.  This is NOT my rule, but was handed down from the administration at AHS.
